Quick. Name 3 things that you loved doing when you were 12.
Chances are that you haven’t done any of them in a long time. Turns out that most of those things weren’t just random things that happened to fall in your path. When you are young your conscious mind is less cluttered which allows your subconscious mind to better reflect the current moment. So when you woke up in the morning and couldn’t wait to pick up your guitar and play, you did just that. These days not so much. Life gets in the way. Find a way to listen to that voice again and you will unlock many things in your life. Current neuroscience has the subconscious mind responsible for upwards of 90 percent of whatever the mind does.
The next question is ‘Can we control our subconscious?’
Like everything in our lives, the right answer here is the one that pops into your head. If you immediately think that this is impossible then it undoubtedly is. For you. If your first thought is ‘Let’s give it a try’ then you are on your way. Just imagine if you had doggedly pursued that passion from when you were young, through thick and thin, to this day. Roger Daltrey did. He didn’t have a lot of other options if you believe his autobiography.
"When is the best time to plant a tree?"
That still leaves us with today and what might be on your mind tomorrow morning. It might be an idea to take a deeper look at what ever comes to mind before you let your day run you over. The Chinese answer to ‘When is the best time to plant a tree?’ is ‘Twenty years ago’. The second best time is today.
